Leopards head to SCIAC volleyball tourney

Above, sophomore Catie Logan (No. 7) blocks a return in the first set of La Verne’s match with Caltech on Friday. The Leopards mauled the Beavers in straight sets for their fourth consecutive victory and their 16th overall win of the season.

On Tuesday night La Verne clinched a playoff spot by winning its sixth in row against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in three straight sets to earn a berth in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament.

The Leopards ended their season with a record of 18-10 overall and 8-6 in the SCIAC.

The team ended the season with 2,311 points scored, achieving a record of 8-4 at home, 4-4 away and 6-2 at neutral sites.

La Verne will now head to Cal Lutheran to being play in the SCIAC Tournament.

On Friday at 5 p.m. La Verne will take on second place Occidental (25-7). If they can keep the win streak going, the Leopards will continue with tournament play on Saturday.

The team also celebrated Senior Night in a grand way on Friday, defeating the Beavers in three sets (25-8, 25-5, 25-8).

Before the game, seniors Chelsea Sleight, Laura Gil, Anna Calmer, Colleen Moreno and Nicole Wandler were recognized for their contributions to the Leopard volleyball program.

The match was ULV’s final home match of the season.
